I live in Norfolk, one of the biggest counties in England, one so boring that many from around the country haven’t even heard of it. We’re most famous for being home to the now dead cheap Turkey Peddling arsehole Bernard Matthews.
I’d say it is a largely conservative area, by and large rural counties usually are. There is a lot of ignorance here towards other cultures and races simply because there is a huge lack of diversity. I believe there were around three black people in my high school and I struggle to remember any other religious faiths, people were either a christian or expressed no inclination toward any religion. It’s been four years and I hope that has changed, but I highly doubt it. So what we have here is a classic example of a strong conservative area, and as a result rather bleak and suffocating.
Luckily my girlfriend shares very similar views, we talk regularly about what is going on with the world. If I didn’t meet her I’m sure I would have gone insane. Up until I met her there really wasn’t anyone at all who came from where I was coming from. With that said, I don’t spend a lot of time around people. In school I felt alone in my rebellion, there were many things I took issue with and had no qualms about airing them. I was of course, suspended a few times. So I was, for the most part, alone in my disdain for authority. When I talked of my philosophies on politics I could tell people weren’t really listening, and if they were they did so for entertainment purposes, looking upon me as some sort of hilarious mad man.
